Understanding a Dissertation

A dissertation is an extended piece of writing based on comprehensive research. It aims to contribute new knowledge or insights to your field of study. Comprehensive research entails analysing data, research methodologies, and various sources of information.

The Components

As my dissertation will be about a subject, I will probably not need to include sections for methodology and results.

The Tone

My dissertation should take a more relaxed, blog/magazine style tone. While it’s not as academic, it will still follow a structure.

The Research Proposal

This is a formal document that outlines a planned research project. It is typically required when seeking approval, funding or support for a research initiative. The proposal details what the research aims to accomplish, why it is important, and how the researcher plans to carry it out.
