After creating a mindmap of my initial ideas of what my interactive product could be, I knew from the start I wanted to create a product for the 10 year old age group as it would allow me to explore a more illustrative and colourful design approach.

One of my initial ideas that appealed to me was altering the goals into a digital game. I thought about what games I would’ve played when I was that age, but also researched other games that are aimed at that age group. I didn’t limit my search solely to digital games, I considered physical board games as well, thinking about if I could change these into a digital version. Another thought I was considering at this point as well was an ebook, having a character for each goal.

Once my target audience was decided, I carried out more specific research into understanding my audience. This included the level of literacy 10 year olds would be at, especially if I decided to do an ebook as I would have to alter the language so it would be easier to understand.

Then I thought about if I could combine some of my ideas, like having characters within a game or mini games within the ebook. As I said before, I was considering simplifying the language used, so I considered using a single word for each goal.

At this point I had come to the decision of creating some form of sports tournament game based of the SDGs. So I carried out some competitor research to see what they did well and how the user flow of a game would look. Designing a game is not something I have thought about or done since one week in Foundation Art, so I wanted to look at how other games work and look to gain some knowledge and inspiration.
