This part of the process took up a long period of time as there was multiple aspects of the UI I had to consider. I was surprised with the number of ‘layers’ there was within my idea and how many different screens I would have to consider. I began with some quick sketches, taking visual inspiration, and getting my ideas down on paper.

At this point I started looking at what I could name my game, focusing on using the three letters, SDG, which were already available to me. As well as this I thought about what sports I could use for each goal. At this point in the design process, I was mainly focusing on getting the ideas that were floating around my head down on paper.

With the name decided as ‘The Sustainable Development Games’, I looked at how this would visually look, including a logo. During this process, the shape of a leaf/water drop began to stand out to me, as both ways you can look at it reflects sustainability. I then used these shapes to create the three letters.

Part of this project was to create our own versions of the goals, so I thought about how I could create consistency across the UI and use the leaf shape to be the basis of my versions of the goals. So I took each goal individually, and redesigned them including the leaf shape in each. While this was quite time consuming, I feel it will be worth it when I start to digitally build my screens.
