The first step in UXD502 was to find a research question for my dissertation. I considered aligning my dissertation with my major project, however for now, I am not too concerned about them being about the same thing, as I still need to determine what I am doing my major project on.

I knew from the beginning I wanted my dissertation to be related to a topic that I have an interest in. That being said, I started looking into how UX is being incorporated into sport.

Following Week 1’s class, I had a topic in mind, UX and Sports Participation, however I needed to narrow this down further into a question or statement. To do this, I carried out research and readings which I have documented below.

Initial Thoughts & Brainstorming

I noted down some initial thoughts and ideas of areas/topics, and then explored a selection of them in more detail. My first idea was to write about UX and how it impacts participation in sport. However, after carrying out some research, I found there was limited studies and information available about this area. So, I explored more options. During this, I found my self coming back to injury prevention, in particular ACL injuries, which is a subject of many studies, particularly in women’s sport. I felt this would be a strong topic to research and there would be a solid collection of websites, books and articles that I could look into. Next I considered how does IXD play into this. From past readings I knew that AI was starting to be used for sporting injuries, and I carried out some more research and found that other technologies are being introduced like VR, AR and wearable devices. I felt these could act as the different sections within my dissertation, so I thought about using terms like ‘Advancing Technologies’, ‘Technological Advancements’ or ‘Emerging Technology’, which would allow me to group them together.

Thinking of Research Questions/Statements

With this in mind, I started to think of possible research questions and statements, based on my initial thoughts/brainstorming.
