My next step is to consider how the screens will visually look. So I started with a number of quick sketches of how the opening of the app would look. I first thought a portrait positioned screen would be best, however after creating a few sketches, I felt for my designs changing it to landscape might be a better option.
The concept of ideas coming to your head at the most random of times happened to me when it came to this project. The thought of having each level/goal being a floating island came to me when I was watching the movie ‘Avatar’. So as soon as I could I got sketches down on paper it cement the idea and also thought about using flags as a way of showing which island is which.
I did spend quite a bit of time on the concept of the islands, so I needed to think about the main bunch of screens which would be the in game level screens. I created quick wireframes of how some of the levels could look.
With all these ideas now down in my sketchbook, I created more detailed and structured wireframes. I looked at the user flow as well, thinking of what steps the user would take. At this point I had decided to make my game an educational one that could be used in schools. So I felt that having the teacher as the primary log in, and then the pupil having their own profiles within that would be the best option.
